As fans who have followed the development of the Starz original series, Outlander, Summer and I have had a most exciting year. With each picture released, each character cast, we began to build the image in our minds of this new iteration of our beloved series. With Ron D. Moore at the helm, a magnificent production team, and author Diana Gabaldon as series consultant, Starz has already captured the hearts of thousands.
Months before its August 9th premiere was even announced, Outlander already had a tremendous Web presence. With Starz’ Outlander Newsletter, and its Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts, fans can read the latest series announcements and see behind-the-scenes photos. Starz has even created a Community Directory, which provides fans a one-stop shop to discover popular fan blogs and groups.
But wait… there’s more!
Enter OutlanderCommunity.com, a site that aggregates the latest Outlander content across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, fan blogs, and more. Since its launch on May 2, 2014, with the #WhereIsClaire activity, which allowed fans to spread the word about the disappearance of main character Claire Randall, and the trailer, it has continued to provide unique opportunities for people to share their love of the story and spread the word about Outlander. Starz has also included exclusive Bonus Content, including a downloadable version of the promotional poster with key art, and most recently, its Apothecary Cabinet.
Outlander is a story told from Claire’s point of view; the point of view of a healer, a woman quite literally of two centuries. Having fallen through time some 200 years, she must make use of what is available in the 18th century. The Apothecary Cabinet features 14 different plants used to treat everything from indigestion to cramps, and heart attacks to infection. These plants and herbs play a big role throughout the series; this Activity can help explain their properties and uses.
Be sure to visit OutlanderCommunity.com each day, as more activities and quizzes will be rolled out in the coming weeks!
